Quality Over Quantity: Our Approach to Custom Home Building
At Lexis Homes, we intentionally take on a limited number of buildings each year. Like any business, profit matters – but that’s not the only thing that guides our decisions. What matters just as much is doing the work the right way, without over extending ourselves.
We’ve seen what happens when a builder says yes to everything. Timelines slip. Details get missed. Client communication is comprimised. And the whole experience that should feel exciting starts feeling stressful.
Every home we build is personal. It represents someone’s vision, their lifestyle, and often one of the biggest financial decisions of their life. That deserves real attention.
Here’s just a few reasons why, as a custom home builder in Saskatoon, we limit our build spots each year:
1. The Client Experience
Good communication shouldn’t be optional when you’re spending over a million dollars on a home. Limiting our projects means clients actually hear back from us, get real updates, and aren’t left wondering what’s going on with their build.
2. Hands-On Oversight
Custom homes need constant attention. We’re involved at every stage — from early planning and design through construction and all the way to possession day. That’s hard to do when you’re spread too thin.
3. Stronger Trade Relationships
Our trades are the backbone of every home we build. A manageable schedule means they’re not rushed, workmanship stays consistent, and the people doing the work actually have time to do it right.
4. Realistic Scheduling
Timelines built on wishful thinking help nobody. Fewer builds means we schedule based on true capacity — not best-case scenarios that unravel the moment something unexpected happens (and something always does).
5. Quality Control & Accountability
Fewer homes means tighter quality control. We know every project inside and out, catch issues early, and take full responsibility from start to finish. We’d rather build fewer homes properly than more homes with compromises.
Do we make mistakes? Absolutely. Building custom homes is a complex process with countless moving pieces, and no project is ever completely flawless. What matters to us is having the time, presence, and accountability to deal with those moments properly when they happen. By keeping our build list manageable, we’re able to stay focused, respond quickly, and give every home the attention it deserves.
At the end of the day, our goal isn’t simply to build more homes — it’s to build homes we’re proud to stand behind long after possession day.
